Even though this is the standard style of labels, the labels are heat and water proof because they are laminated. I labeled some of my kitchen spatulas and stuck then in the dishwasher and the label is still perfectly on, even through the wash and heated drying cycles. Overall a great product! :)

We use this machine and the tag label tape a law firm. We call on all the files (open and closed). We went through a lot of tape on the label. This tape works well --- black letters on a white ribbon. Happy with the product.

I originally purchased refilled cartridges from a local ink store and they failed miserably. I ended up buying new cartridges in the end.

I give these only three stars because the ink is wickedly expensive relative to the initial printer cost. I bought an NX400 in Dec/08 for $55 from Amazon and ended up spending about $45 to replace the cartridges one year later.

As silly as it sounds, the next time the ink needs to be replaced I'll probably end up buying a new printer.

The cartridges work but beware the cost.

For some reason, the blow-off Chinese Cheapo cartridges do not work in my Epson printers. No surprise. Not a bad thing, since the material seems false to last only about 1 / 3 while the original article. Amazon had the real thing at competitive prices, so I'm happy. I bought an HP printer again to replace what we had over 4 years. The printer quality is exceptional for the price. I was curious, however, because the ink cartridges for this printer is new about half the cost of the older model, for what seemed a very good deal. Unfortunately, the reality is that new ink cartridges for this model of duration about half the time than others. I agree with a lot of press recently about the need for ink producers to label their products with the amount of ink, rather than the number of pages you can print. It is impossible to compare prices and know what you are getting your money. However, I still recommend this printer. HP is a great company.

I have a box of ink cartridges on hand because it always seems to be what one is running, but usually only one at a time. I have not had time to figure out exactly how many times I will change out. It is not too frequent. The reason why the four stars instead of five is the price. At around $ 12.50 per cartridge, appear to be "too expensive. The print quality is top notch, but I think Canon is a bit 'greedy to charge $ 50 for the series of four ink tanks.

Amazon has "buy together" feature and also another "compatibility note" below each ink listing that tells if its the correct ink. I ended up buying the wrong ink because of that. You need PG-210XL ink for MX330 not this one. Canon PG-210XL Cartridge (Black)

The page for PGI-220 still tells me its compatible with the printer I bought from Amazon. Great features if they work, too bad if they don't! Its past the return date and the item's out of the box.

Although I like all the time to buy ink for ink jet printers, I found my Canon iP4600 printer excellent for suspension. And when the printer produces reliable, quality production, I do not mind buying ink. Ink cartridges for Canon seems to last longer than my Epsons preventive and HPS. Maybe it's just in my head since the printer is so great.

I do very little B / W printing and nearly colorless. I'm amazed at how quickly the ink is consumed. I'm sure this must be the self-cleaning, because that is certainly one of the documents to print week or so /. This printer is a complete scam when you need to continue to buy ink the only way to clean the floor. I inkjet, it is not.

I thought I had made a big mistake when I compared the old print cartrige to the new. The new was much smaller. Well with a little closer inspection I found that a had pulled out the entire print head. This is good because you want to slide the wire cleaner a couple of times before installing the new toner cartrige. Every thing went back together fine. Whew... Printer has been working great and, for the little I seem to be printing, I hope to have a few decades of printing to go on this high yield cartridge. What do you need to know? Shipping speed was so so. Price is amazing. Now go buy it.

An ink jet with my earlier, I used cartridges very good deal and I paid. They ran fast, jumped and generally were a pain. When I had my Canon, I promised myself to just suck it up and only use Canon cartridges. Now my printer is a thing of joy. It always works well, reliably tells me when you are out of ink and is virtually free of problems. I think the OEM cartridges investment worthwhile. Still looking for the best price, but I'm not suffering for it.

study the website with varous different forum and site to complete this purchase. all in all, it is a good buy, duplex printing is great, speed is great, scanning is stunning, and most of all, wireless to place in another room to let everyone access to it was the best feature thus far i thought was brilliant. however, the ink went out fast, but, it was not expensive to replace. about $6 for the large black one, you may get a deal if you buy in bulk. good luck.

I am not what I would call computer savey but I found this to be easy to set up, wireless. I've been using it for about a month and so far it's working ok. I have a brand new Dell, Windows 7 with no problems getting the software to work. My last printer was just that a printer that was years old but still worked and I wanted to start all new with the new computer, plus copier, photo, scan and fax. It is a lot larger than what I am used to but with all the extra things it would have to be and luckily I have a large desk with room for it. I don't use it that often but everything seems to be working.

Very satisfied with the quality of this printer. So far I have used all the features except for the fax as I have had no need for it so far. The photos printed off my memory card were excellent, even large size prints. Scanner and copier both worked well and were very easy to use. I have it set up on the USB port at the moment so I have not tried the wireless. The product arrived ahead of schedule even so close to Christmas!

I've bought Belkin products before and I have to say they are in the top ten list of companys to do business with in my opinion. I needed a longer cable to move my printer to a different location on our computer hutch here in the bedroom office. Ten feet turned out to be exactly the distance I needed with some slack left over. I now have a shorter spare cable to use for whatever else comes up in the future. Not much else to say. Either a cable works or it doesn't. It's 50/50 but more so these days things are good right out of the box. Belkin works for me. I hope you give them a place in your computer life too.

Fair disclosure: I've had this printer up and running for less than 48 hours. But the early results have been so incredibly good, I felt a review was in order. If you, like me, have been on an endless search for an AIO that actually worked as advertised and could hold its own with minimal compromise vs. more task specific printers, then I believe your search has ended with the 990.

Setup: A+. I have two Macs, one a PowerMac G5 running 10.5, the other a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, both on my Airport Extreme (simultaneous dual band) network, and setup was about as close to plug and play as you could get. Just BE SURE that if you're running 10.6, you download all the latest drivers from Canon's website. The software CD packed with the printer is not updated for Snow Leopard.

Wireless Performance: As noted above, connecting to my home network was a snap. I've had no dropped connections over two days. Now, I've never had a problem printing wirelessly in the past, but scanning wirelessly and reliably? Forget it. At least, until the 990, which worked flawlessly on both machines from the first scan. You'd swear that Apple, and not Canon, had designed this hardware/software solution. Pop in a document, click scan, choose which computer you want to send it to and you're done.

Printing Quality: A. Superb quality on both black text and color graphics, and all reasonably quick.

Photo Quality: Haven't gotten into this yet, but professional reviews posted thus far indicate that the photo printing performance is excellent.

Scanning/Copying Quality: A. Scans and copies are incredibly good. Haven't tried negs or slides as yet.

Ease of Use: A. If Apple designed its own printer, this is how it would work. An amazingly intuitive interface.

I'll post an update after I've put it through its paces a while longer, but it's a definite 5 stars out of the box. Thanks for taking the time to read this review--I hope you found the info useful in helping you make a buying decision!

Update as of 10/16/09:

The Bad News: Within 2 weeks of posting my review, this printer has dropped in price by $100! Oh well... that'll teach me to be first in line to buy a new model.

The Good News: I rated it 5 stars at $299 and I still think it's every bit as good as noted in my review. At $199, it's now a steal of a deal as well.

I just bought this printer and I LOVE it. It's the perfect all in one printer for home/ small office use. I am a student and wanted an all in one so i could print, copy and scan documents without the stress of using the school's facilities every time. This printer is exactly what I needed. The print quality is superb. Even photos printed with this printer come out looking just as good as lab quality photos. The colours are vibrant and rich and borderless printing is excellent. Photocopying and scanning quality is really good too. However, printing speed is not the fastest but it doesn't detract from the beauty of this machine. The printer itself has a small footprint and I love the way everything folds into one compact design and eliminates dust getting trapped inside the printer. Overall, this is a great printer for the price. Note that a usb cord is not included in the package.

So far this laser has been great. i was looking for a laser that printed on both sides and network ready. The samsung filled the bill at a very attractive price (can be has for $160 with instant rebate). It was a breeze to setup on Mac OS 10.5 as a network printer. Bonjour found it and just use the Samsung driver. Also since it has native postscript support you can use the Generic Postscript Driver with it as well. Works fine under 10.5 that way as well. Printing speed is awesome, and printing on both sides is great. the smaller form factor is great too.

This little boy is excellent. And you can't beat it for the price too. Also extremely easy to set up.

I am coming from an HP LaserJet, also 30 papers per minute. So I was comparing it to the HP when I shopped.

My HP, while it served me good, was not as sharp black as the Brother is. I like the print results from the Brother much better. Plus, the Brother have settings whether you're printing text only, graphics, general, or office documents, in addition you can choose "manual" and tweak the settings yourself to your liking. I also like that the size of the printer is pretty small.

The HP was a little faster from sleep mode (like 8 seconds), while the Brother 5370 takes approx. 14 seconds. Not a biggie. The processor was faster in the HP, but 99% of the time you won't notice the difference. Once it starts printing, it spits out papers like crazy. Very fast. One important note, though: The fast 32 ppm is only if you are printing in 600 dpi mode. If you need the higher quality 1200 dpi mode, print speed will be down by half! But there again, 99% of the time the 600 dpi is more than enough. Some higher quality graphics may require 1200 dpi, though.

Printing envelopes thru the multi-purpose paper tray is very good, and they're not getting curled (like many old Brothers did) as long as you open the rear output tray. It can not print thru the regular printing area (if you do, it will still print, but envelopes will get wrinkled). I miss the HP in that area. It's much less cumbersome.

The printer is quite noisy. But most fast laser printers are noisy.

The duplexer worked beautifully. You just select "Duplex" or "Booklet", and the printer does the rest. Very good job with that.

I did not use the wireless networking, but from the manual it seems to be a little complicated. Also from the manual, is the following: "...Although the printer can be used in both, wired & wireless network, only ONE of the connections methods can be used at a time..." So keep that in mind if you want to use both.

I would suggest the following improvements, if Brother is interested to listen:

- Make it quieter;
- Add a little high-quality display instead of all the lamps (also miss from my HP - all cheap inkjet have'em today!);
- If out of paper, it should beep, so I know to add paper (optional - not everyone will like beeps);
- Enable the multi-purpose paper tray to be opened with one hand (like my HP), not force me to use both hands.

Overall, though, it is a pleasure to use. Highly recommended.

**UPDATE**

I contacted Brother to help me setup wireless network. I must say I am amazed at the support I got. I can't recall if I ever had such a good experience with any other company! No waiting, knowledgeable staff, and helped me in less than minutes! And it works like a charm!

I only have the printer for a few days, but so far I am very pleased.
I was a bit nervous before buying because I had read a lot of complaints about an earlier model, Artisan 800, having a lot of paper jams. But the paper handling on my 810 has been flawless, if a tiny bit noisy while it pulls in the paper. The actual printing is quiet, and of great quality. The paper tray feels a bit flimsy, but is easy to remove or insert, and there's no fuss to loading your paper in it. It can expand to hold legal size paper, and has a separate area for smaller sized papers, usually for photo printing paper. The package comes with 3 sheets of Epson high quality 4x6 glossy photo paper, so I printed three photos as a test and I could not be more pleased with the photo print quality. I have been using an HP Wireless printer up until now (model 5850) and the print quality of the Artisan 810 far outstrips that HP, with much deeper blacks and dark tones, and more rich looking color, which is probably due to superior ink quality more than the printer quality. Also, they promise that their inks are acid-free and will last 3 or 4 times longer than drug-store prints. Another pre-purchase worry was that there were complaints about the Artisan 800 being a big ink-hog. Too early to tell, but I've printed those 3 photos and a fourth on plain paper, and about 25 pages of text (some with graphics) and the ink levels have not budged yet. So, so far so good on ink usage. I was surprised and pleased too that the 810 printer comes with an TWO black ink cartridges, so you'll have an extra one when it runs out. Nice! Additionally, the inks provided are the same capacity as the refills, whereas some printers I have seen came with ink cartridges that have a lower capacity. A nice feature is that when you plug in a camera memory card in the front slots, not only can you see and even crop the photos on the printer's screen, but the photos on the card can also be remotely viewed by your computer on the same wifi! Very neat. It warns on the box that this feature may not work with Mac computers, but it worked fine with my IMac. Haven't tried printing from the iPhone as they claim you can do, though I suspect I won't use that feature much. I love the big touch-screen operation too, it is pretty slick. Made a few copies of some simple pencil drawings and they were very good, and it was not obvious to tell which was the original or copy, but I haven't really tested the copier out enough as yet to give a good opinion about its copy qualities.

Have had this printer for about a week now. Upgraded from a Epson R2400. Reason for upgrading, couldn't keep the epson's printhead from clogging. Wasted more ink trying to keep the printheads clean then I actually used printing pictures. As far as print quality goes between the two is basically a toss up. Prints from the canon are more glossy then the epson probably due to the fact the canon uses dye inks while the epson uses pigment. The only thing I don't like about the canon is right out of the box the prints seem to have to much red in them. Playing around in Adobe CS4 I was able to get the prints to my liking. With the easyprint software included with the printer, no matter what setting it seemed all the pictures have a red tint to them. This is one area the epson had an advantage, the easyprint software that came with the epson produced prints spot on. This is the reason I gave the printer a four star instead of five. The people that use adobe photoshop to print all their pictures won't have a problem, but people like me that like using the easyphoto program to print out a bunch of picutres might be somewhat disappointed. A couple of more pluses of the printer are: Turns out prints faster then the epson R2400. Prints look sharp on a wide variety of paper, not just the canon paper. This was one drawback of the epson R2400, seemed only to print good on epson paper. Not the case with the canon. Also, seems better on ink compared to the epson so far. I have printed a lot of photos of all sizes and all the ink levels are still pretty close to full. Overall I would definetly recommend this printer.

This is overall a very good printer. I like the built in duplex scanner and printer; it scans 2 sided documents without the need to flip it as well as prints 2 sided. The only drawback is that there is a brief 10 second or so pause after printing one side to allow the ink to dry.

I would give this product a 5 star rating but lowered it by 2 for two reasons.

Reason 1:

I question the quality of this printer. My first one was defective. It had two problems.

First, the key pad would not function properly. It ignored about every other key press and that was when pressing them normally. Pressing the buttons quickly such as to scroll down a menu would result in only a few buttons being recognized if any. Going through the menu with this defect was a chore. I checked the display model at a store which did not have that problem. This defect appeared to affect all the buttons.

Second, the printer registered the ink as installed on December 2008 even though it was installed in May 2009. This did not affect the ink warranty however.

My replacement printer operated normally. The keypad recognized all the buttons. I was able to quickly work my way through the menus. The ink showed it was installed in May 2009. However, the connection piece in the back that connects everything (power cable, phone, Ethernet, USB, etc.) does not appear to be tightly connected to the printer housing (not a big deal).

Reason 2:

In choosing my new printer, I was looking for a low cost printer to do black and white printouts to replace my old HP laser 4si. The replacement black ink cost appears to be much more expensive when compared to the HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless all in one model. This printer uses the 564XL black ink which is good for only about 800 pages. The 8500 all in one uses the 940XL black ink which is good for about 2200 pages, nearly 3 times more, yet they cost about the same when purchased from Amazon. It would appear the price per page for black ink is more than double the cost of the 8500 model.

The color inks appear to have the same per page cost between this model and the 8500 when purchased through Amazon. The inks for this printer have about 1/2 the page capacity, but are also about 1/2 the price.

While I prefer the 8500 models black ink cost, I decided against that higher end model because of an annoying high pitch noise it emits from where the power cable connects (at least from the one I took home as well as from several store displays).

Good Quality Photos:

The photos look great on HP glossy paper. Looking at them, they would appear to come from a photo lab, there was no graininess. I never believed Ink Jets could print such beautiful images. However, when I printed them through Windows Vista photo gallery, they came out too red. I adjusted the magenta down and increased the cyan and yellow. I still wasn't happy with the results. When I printed them through the HP Digital Imaging Monitor and selected Auto Photo Fix under advanced options, the colors appeared to print correctly under the default settings. So I am guessing in the future, I will need to print all my pictures via the HP Digital Imaging Monitor.

Follow up on 6/17/09 (Revised from 6/7/09 to correct saturation and color tone)

I recommend turning off Auto Photo Fix because it doesn't seem to work correctly on all photos. Instead, I have created a new setting. I use Bright -6, Saturation 0 (neutral), Color Tone -30 (cool), Cyan 12, Magenta -8, Yellow 5, and Black 0. I print on HP photo paper with the automatic settings and run this through the Photosmart software. The default color settings (zero on all) were way off, extremely red and too warm.

The above settings produce amazing lab quality results.

You can move the picture up and down in the HP Photosmart Essential software to crop it as well.

Follow up on 9/2/09

I have had several issues with this printer which I was able to correct:

1) The auto paper feeder would not feed the paper through after a couple of sheets. HP support gave me some documentation how to clean the rollers and that resolved the problem

2) Using Vista 64 bit software, the printer frequently sent my computer a connection error when scanning documents. A July 2009 update on HP's website corrected that problem. It is a firmware update that I highly recommend.

3) The fax would not work with my Comcast ISP phone service. Per HP's website, a solution is to lower the connection speed; I set mine at the lowest, 9600, and the fax now works perfectly using Comcast's ISP service.

I noticed a big difference between this HP printer and my former Epson printers. When my Epson printers thought the ink was empty, that was it, the printers stopped working. This HP printer on the other hand gives frequent notices when it thinks the ink is empty but doesn't shut down the printer. I have gone through all my cartridges at least once, some twice using XL cartridges (I have used the printer a lot), and have ignored the warnings. I wait until I can visually see that the color is gone on my print outs. Replacing the totally empty cartridge with a level one cleaning does the job. The ink indicator is fairly inaccurate from my experience and I can use the cartridges much longer than what the printer thinks I have.

I don't recommend a level two cleaning unless needed as that uses up lots of ink.

I am still very happy with this printer.

Follow up on 10/5/09

I noticed this printer sometimes cuts the bottom line on some of my printouts. After searching the HP forums for awhile, I found a fix. If this also happens to you, go to your control panel, select printer, right click on HP Photosmart C309a series and chose properties, go to tab ports, and uncheck the box that states Enable bidirectional support which is towards the bottom.

Follow up on 10/30/09

I installed Windows 7 on my system initially as an upgrade. The HP Solution Center no longer worked. I also had issues with other software (non HP software), so I did a clean install of Windows 7. The HP website has Windows 7 software for this printer which I have installed and so far appears to work fine. I suggest that if you install Windows 7, you might want to uninstall all the HP software prior to the upgrade and then install the updated Windows 7 HP printer software.

The other thing is that bidirectional support was re-enabled causing some of my print outs to cut-off at the bottom. The printer was not listed in devices and printers. To remove bi-directional support, you can open up Internet Explorer and select print from the menu. Under select printer, highlight HP Photosmart 309a Series and right click it and select properties. Go to the tab ports and uncheck the box that states Enable bidirectional support which is towards the bottom and click OK. The system will save the setting even if re-booted.

Follow up on 11/9/2009

I am not happy. I am downgrading this printer to one star from three. I noticed some discoloration on my table right next to the printer. I lifted the printer and saw a tremendous amount of ink on my table underneath the printer. I have never seen an inkjet do this before. Needless to say, my small table is permanently damaged. I have returned this to the store I bought it at and replaced it with a Canon Pixma MX860.

I did a ton of research and finally decided to go with this unit despite no reviews at the time. Installation was a breeze (using Mac OS X) except for one part where it asks you to set up a print queue. After doing so, it didn't recognize it after multiple attempts. I finally decided to click past that step and it worked fine anyway.

We printed about a dozen photos over the first three days. On day 4, the printer booted up and slammed the print cartridge hard to the left, then came up with a "Carriage Jam" error. The nice thing about the touch screen is that it also visually walks you through pictures of the areas that you need to check for paper jams, etc.. Alas, after going through every trouble shooting step provided, it didn't solve the problem.

We returned it to Amazon (Very hassle free I might add--can't fault them a bit) and decided to try a second one since we did like the features. I was glad to see that Amazon ships you another even before you return the defective one. So far this one is working fine although it's only been a couple of days.

Our last HP was probably 4 years old. I have to say the print speed on this one is amazingly fast by comparison. I'm impressed it can print a 4x6 photo as fast as it does. Copy and scan work well too, although I've found I have to initiate scanning from the Mac. Didn't seem to work if I tried to use the touchscreen to scan. I was pleased how easy they make choosing options with scanning. You can scan a document straight to PDF, JPEG, TIFF, Memory Card, USB drive, OCR...

Overall, it does seem as though this printer is very well made. It's also great having a tray for both paper and 4x6 photos. Unlike so many printer reviews, it doesn't appear as though this printer is burning through much ink at all.

Although I would definitely recommend it, I can't give it 5 stars due to the issues mentioned above.

Our TV is a Samsung, so we thought we'd try out this printer b/c of the price. Print quality is pretty good, setup is quite easy, and it's very quiet. It's also a networkable printer (Ethernet and WiFi) so it was a no-brainer on which one to get.

The only "gripe" I have w/ this printer is the wireless setup--it is not very easy to do and the manual wasn't as detailed as it should have been. Basically, the printer uses 802.11b/g to connect to your wireless base station.

The easiest way to setup the printer that I've found is to do the following...

Install the software (Mac or Windows)

Change the IP address to a static one on your network that is compatible w/ your router (ex. If your router is 192.168.1.1, then make the printer 192.168.1.2).

Set the gateway to point to the router(ex. 192.168.1.1).

Restart the printer, and you're in business.

This was NOT how it was explained in the manual... it ended up taking longer following the instructions in the box, than it did to just do it myself. I'm no genius, but you can tell that the people who wrote the manual were not the people who were using it, or had done it so many times that they forgot a few steps.

Excellent printer, just tread lightly when setting up the network/wifi connection.

Lexmark made the wireless setup easy vis the enclosed computer CD installation program. I liked the automatic two sided printing too. Included in the box are extended life ink cartridges. Usually with a new printer you get limited yield cartridges.

I was able to scan pictures remotely via the wireless connection...very slick. I haven't tried the fax yet but the copy features work fine. The power is supplied via cord directly to the printer....no transformer to trip over. Print quality is good, typical ink jet. The box said the warranty is 5 years with registration. I had a Lexmark two printers ago and had trouble 3 times. Lexmark replaced the printer with a new on each time with shipping both ways at their expense.

My highest priority was for an all-in-one that would fit upon my home desktop alongside my computer and monitor. I needed to replace my HP F4180 because of queuing problems with the latest version of one of my photo editors.
By comparison, the F4480 is much faster, quieter and sleeker. Prints spew out at least 50% faster. The unit is quieter in operation and has the sound of quality. The F4480 is sleeker and shorter.
I can't address this unit's durability except to say that I am a computer hobbyist of over thirty years. For about the last ten years I have chosen HP products exclusively. I am very pleased with HP's online support (chat) system.
As for ink usage, I will willingly pay more for the convenience of needing only two cartridges.
Tho I use printers predominantly for printing and copying documents, I am delighted with the photo quality of the prints which are sometimes exhibited on the walls of our home.
As for the software, I downloaded the driver only version from the HP website. The full HP software on the CD may be helpful to novice users but is an annoyance for folks who don't like all the ads. Better freeware options exist elsewhere online.
Price was not an issue, this was simply the best at fulfilling my particular needs. However, I am still in awe of the low price.

I spent about a week researching for just the right multi-function printer for my needs. I own a small business with about 30 employees so I needed more than an inkjet but didn't require a 'corporate' $1000+ version either. I needed fax, scan, copy, and print capability with laser printing and built-in wireless capability. Suprisingly, there are not that many printers on the market that can give you all of these in one package. Originally I was going to purchase the Brother's MFC-8870 for around $500 which all the reviews on the internet recommend, but I found this while browsing around and realized that it had just come out a few weeks ago. Although there were no reviews out yet for this new printer, it was considerably less expensive than the 8870 and the only thing I seemed to be losing was auto-duplexing so I made the purchase. It took about 15 minutes total for me to set up an ad-hoc wireless printer setup and everything works great. The scans are nice, the printing is very crisp and clear even in very small fonts. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the fax which I won't be using much. I really can't say anything bad about this product. Sure it would be nice to have a legal-size flatbed, auto-duplex, and 64mb memory (instead of the default 32mb) but for the money this can't be beat. Overall, this seems to be a really great product at a great price. I highly recommend this if you need a 4-in-1 with wireless capability. Definitely the best on the market for this niche.

When i went looking for reviews on this product there were not many except on best-buy and office depot but they did not give much to go on. So, i took a chance and have not regretted it except in price because i spent under a hundred dollars for the hp j4580 which i returned after three days for this one.

I have only had this printer for 2 days but so far so good. Here is what i can tell you as of this review.
Setup was pretty straight forward not much different than my old hp.I setup as usb did not use wireless or Ethernet

Scan quality is good with photos i did not scan a document but i am sure it will do well.

Printing went better than the hp j6500 i tested in the store and against the j4580 and warmed up a lot faster too.

Copying did well as i copy a flier my daughter made and you could hardly tell the difference between the two.
As far as faxing and using the built in network i have not tried but given how everything else works flawlessly i am sure it will do just fine.

Card Readers work great as it did well in reading and printing photos. The only thing is it will not give you that high gloss due to the fact that this printer use pigment ink and the artisan 810 which i did consider(price) uses dye based ink that gives that shine.

The only thing that i did not like is that given the amount of money i spent buying this printer you would think they could have built in a duplex as it only has manual duplex through windows only.

I have an apple computer but i have not tried the drivers for it yet. From the book it states that it support leopard. I have snow Leopard so i will report back as i find out.

Dislikes-
the on and off is not really on and off as it asks you are you sure. Yes i am sure!!! i want to turn you off.
The tray are a little flimsy it works for me.
Oh yeah. No duplex!!! Just manual.
People have said that when ink cartridge runs out of ink the printer will not print. So that will be an annoyance for me but given the price for the replacement it's not that bad.

All in all this is a good aio printer that works well for my needs and i can not complain. The good outweighs the small dislikes about this printer.

Edit/Update:

After installing drivers usb i decided to install via network cable and is working great. The only thing is that i was not aware of is that the software must be install on every pc wanting to use the features of this printer. I am not good at networking but it seems to be the case. Even though i have it via Ethernet cable everyone can connect wirelessly to the printer with no problem. The setup for this was not really hard just follow the screens and that is it.
Because i needed more info i went to their website and found that their trouble shooting tips leaves a lot to be desired.

I have scan documents and pictures and all works great for me.
Printing pictures is nice but i have to admit you to be careful because ink is not that great for pictures. One it takes a while to dry, two if even your finger is a little wet it will see damage(small). But other than that the print quality is very good for documents etc. If you are a person who plan to print a lot of photos then i would say consider the artisan or hp. But is still prints nice pictures. Other than that this is a great printer fitting most of your needs.

As of this update i Still have not tried the faxing.

Economy laser printers are more available, but are they worth the admittedly good prices? This Samsung is.

I've only owned it a couple of weeks, but the ML-2510 is a solid printer that prints fast, with good quality. I've not printed photos or artwork with it, so I can't say how the image quality is with those works, but text looks very good.

I returned a previous Samsung because the machine started putting out smoke with each page (yikes!). I also was not impressed with that machine's print speed. This machine is definitely an improvement.

Recommended.

An update six months later: The machine continues to work flawlessly. Print quality is very good. It gets light use (maybe 150 pages per month). Heartily recommended.

Our TV is a Samsung, so we thought we'd try out this printer b/c of the price. Print quality is pretty good, setup is quite easy, and it's very quiet. It's also a networkable printer (Ethernet and WiFi) so it was a no-brainer on which one to get.

The only "gripe" I have w/ this printer is the wireless setup--it is not very easy to do and the manual wasn't as detailed as it should have been. Basically, the printer uses 802.11b/g to connect to your wireless base station.

The easiest way to setup the printer that I've found is to do the following...

Install the software (Mac or Windows)

Change the IP address to a static one on your network that is compatible w/ your router (ex. If your router is 192.168.1.1, then make the printer 192.168.1.2).

Set the gateway to point to the router(ex. 192.168.1.1).

Restart the printer, and you're in business.

This was NOT how it was explained in the manual... it ended up taking longer following the instructions in the box, than it did to just do it myself. I'm no genius, but you can tell that the people who wrote the manual were not the people who were using it, or had done it so many times that they forgot a few steps.

Excellent printer, just tread lightly when setting up the network/wifi connection.

I bought this printer to replace an old HP printer that was giving me headaches.
I couldn't be happier; the setup program is the greatest installation wizard I've seen in a while for a printer: It takes you step by step, with crisp and clear illustrations, through the whole process of unpacking the printer, installing the cartridges and getting the wireless working.
I was especially concerned about the wireless, the installation process had to deal with my Windows Vista, my router, my network security settings, my antivirus and my firewall ... I was expecting some trouble but it just worked seamlessly.
I was so happy I even registered the printer with Lexmark, which apparently gives you ink discounts.
Printing quality is great so far but I've only printed business documents, I'll update this review after I print some pictures.

I have had this printer for a month now, I am using it wireless on a vista machine and two xp laptops. I can honestly say this printer has far exceeded my expectations as all features work perfectly so far. Installation to my wireless network was easy and unlike another review I read I don't need to be by the printer to turn it on from power save mode.I will say the only small negative is that my hp printers print quality was better than this one, but not much better. The Fax machine is as good as the professional ones I use at my Company this is a huge plus on this machine. Also, the document feeder has worked perfectly and if you scan a document you can scan straight to a usb drive plugged into this printer and you can print directly from a usb drive. All in all I believe this printer is the best by on the internet for a wireless all in one printer. I paid 79.95 shipped!

Recieved this printer in a timely manner and in good condition - Nice and professional look to it - The wireless hook up was quick and easy - Works great for me - Has an adjustable time sleep feature, so you do not have to turn on or off manually (especially if it is in another room like mine)Along with many other features!! The only thing (which may be good or bad) is the ink cartridge program - You get a discounted price for a cartridge that is only licensed for one time use (if refilling is your thing) they claim that they won't work again after first use (???) - or you can buy standard cartridges that you can refill for a higher price (But, let's face it - Ink cartridges are a big money maker for a printer company!! Just like razor blades are for a shaver company!!) All in All I think it is a good printer for the price.

I'm one to do a lot of research on a product pre-buy, but I bought this product on a whim at my local electronics store as a replacement for a blockheaded, poorly made, user-unfriendly HP All-in-One which I used as a secondary printer. Well, I must say, I was very impressed with this product from the moment I opened the box. The fit-and-finish is excellent and by touch, of an exceptional quality. Components fit and move smoothly and without the "jiggle" associated with hasty, sloppy manufacturing. Then, upon setup (this is on an Mac, by the way), I found the software intuitive, intelligent, and slick. Mine is setup using the Wi-Fi feature; the setup walks you through the process so concisely, efficiently, and simply that even a technological neophyte could accomplish it with ease. I simply plugged (temporarily, as the setup explains) an ethernet cable from the printer into my router (Time Capsule) and the software nearly instantly recognized the printer. A useful concept also is that with the Install CD, all you have to do is go to each computer on the network, and choose the "Add additional computer" option - this allows every computer in the network to print directly to the printer, rather than "through" a base computer (meaning that the printer is not connected to a computer which has to be on and not asleep for you to print with the printer). Speaking of printing, it exceeded by far my expectations for speed. I expect printing-over-Wi-Fi to be slower by some degree than wired printing; this printer responded as quick or quicker than wired ones to the printing command, with no lag in starting to print, or during printing, and printed color and black exceptionally fast and of high quality. Another thing I really appreciate (from my Canon i9900) is that the inks are separated by color, which means you can replace only those cartridges that are empty, and the printer comes in-box with all the necessary cartridges - full cartridges, not trial sizes, including a high-capacity black. It also comes with a phone line for fax setup and an ethernet cable for wireless setup or wired network hookup (so unlike most printers that you have to buy "real" ink and a USB cable for, you really can walk out the store with this box and have everything you need to get going - you'll need a separate USB cable only for direct printer-to-computer hookup, but who doesn't have a few of those lying around). The flip-out interface is also of great quality - the buttons are secure and pleasing to the touch, and the screen is large, bright, clear, and high-resolution. My one and only complaint is that if the screen were touch-controlled, the already quick interfacing would be even quicker and easier. But again, using the standard arrows and OK button is no hassle and accomplished the task readily. And for $199 (what I paid for it at the local big-box) I couldn't ask for a better, more complete, intuitive, capable, high-quality machine, than the one I got.

I bought this all-in-one because my other printer is not a copy-capable printer and we need that capability. I did some research and finally decided on the Epson NX515 after reading several reviews. So far I have been very pleased with it. I have a couple of small gripes but nothing that cannot be overlooked.

The NX515 is actually a relatively small printer, taking up a little less space than any of my previous printers. It is also lightweight and easy to move should there be a need.

Setting up the NX515 is simple. There is a quick-start guide that explains the process of configuration and it makes the set-up almost foolproof. From the time I opened the box to the time I had a working printer that was producing output was less than 15 minutes, and there were no confusing or difficult steps in the process.

The only negative about the setup is that Epson, like almost every other printer vendor, does NOT include a USB cable in the box. The cost of a USB cable is actually only a couple of dollars (they're a high-profit item) so including one would not break the bank. If you do no have a spare USB cable available and you wish to direct-connect this printer, be sure to pick one up before trying to set up.

Once configured, the NX515 is a very capable printer. It has the fastest print speeds I have ever seen in an inkjet, printing faster in standard mode than I have seen most printers print in draft mode (for standard text - does not apply to photo printing). The quality does not suffer either and is excellent. I was pleased to see than this printer does not produce the banding I have seen in Epson printers' output in the past.

The control panel for setting up copying is very easy to read and very easy to navigate. It is very simple to change copy parameters and the instructions in the panel are straightforward.

I have not used the scanning capabilities of the NX515.

One feature I wish was available, even if it required buying an attachment, is automatic duplex printing. My other printer handles duplex printing with ease and requires no intervention at all. The NX515 does duplex printing but it requires manual intervention. This is a minor inconvenience, not a deal-breaker.

Epson has produced a very nice all-in-one in the NX515. The setup is simple and the print speeds are absolutely stunning. It is by no means a perfect device but it is an excellent product at an excellent price (approximately $110 at the moment). If you need a printer that can handle scanning and copying while producing beautiful prints, give this printer a close look.

I thought I would make what is normally the conclusion the beginning section because not everyone may have the time or the disposition to go through all these paragraphs unless actually interested in making a purchase. I am providing more detail that should support my conclusions AFTER the evaluation section.

Evaluation
----------
This is, esentially, the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer with an extra paper tray, 3 extra ink cartridges and some promo materials. The unit I reviewed did not have the extra paper tray.

The reviewed unit meets the claim of it being a all-in-one solution. While it is not likely that any individual user would take advantage of all its features on a regular basis, it is reassuring to know that the features are there. The supplied software and the printer's own console interface allow for a tremenduous amount of flexibility and customization. Some of the more advanced features will require an above-average level of computer expertise but, even without a lot of customization, this will be a useful, worthy printing/faxing/copying/scanning appliance.

While the superior quality of output would make this printer a good 'small office' candidate, its speed would probably disqualify it if the small office was doing any significant amount printing. I provided some personal benchmarks so that any prospective small business buyer could decide. As a 'home' printer, this comes as close to perfect as they come. I will be using it as a home printer so please do interpret my rating within that context.

A minor observation regarding 'design'. I found it interesting that some of the functions available on the touch screen are duplicated on physical buttons on the printer's console. This was striking because I actually saw this model for sale at New York's Fifth Ave. Apple store. It immediately occured to me that an Apple designer would have none of those buttons if allowed to redesign the product. This is not criticism, it's only an observation, also prompted by the fact that, for example, when specifying the number of copies to be printed, I could NOT use the physical number pad but had to punch the number on the virtual keypad displayed on the touch screen.

The strong, almost violent shaking the printer brings itself to when not on a perfectly steady surface was a little disturbing to me. I have little doubt that, if improperly placed, the printer would quickly lose its printheads alignment and it might even experience other technical trouble.

Finally, I am happy that the HP Tech support solved my Vista-related problem but it would have been better if a printer that was manufatured only a few days before I received it had an updated CD or, at least, a flyer advising Vista users how to obtain the updated driver.

Considering all of the above, the this printer gets a strong, very positive 4 stars. However, my view is that the OfficeJet Pro is basically a 'home' or 'home office' unit, not a 'small business' printer. As such, I see no advantage in purchasing the Premier' model instead of the 'one paper tray', less expensive version.

First impressions
-----------------

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer integrates print, copy, fax, scan document and photo-processing functions. HP supplies the printer itself, 'starter' ink cartridges, print heads and a phone wire. Ethernet or USB cables are not included. Thin manuals are provided for wireless and FAX setup. A quick installation poster is provided as well. The full 300+ manual can be downloaded from the HP site. The CD has drivers for the several supported Operating Systems and a number of additional applications such as OCR (optical character recognition).

Besides the Ethernet and USB ports, other physical IO include 2 telephone jacks in the back and slots for several types of memory cards in the front. The printer can be controlled from a PC or directly through a touch-screen color display and several buttons that generally duplicate options on the menus available through the touch-screen interface. To satisfy energy saving concerns, the printer goes to sleep if not used for a while but it can be reactivated by either touching the screen or one of the buttons or remotely from a networked workstation.

Software
--------
Drivers are available for the most recent flavors of Windows (Vista, XP, 2000) and for the Mac. It can be configured to either a local printer, connected to a PC via a USB cable or as a network printer, wired (Ethernet) or wireless (802.11g). Another option (not tested by me) would be for one PC to connect the printer via USB and then share it over the network. I experienced problems installing the Vista drivers but HP's tech support addressed it by replacing the CD-supplied drivers with a version available at HP's site.

While installing the drivers, HP will also install a number of applications and services. Of these the HP Solutions Center is the most versatile. It monitors the printer's status, including the ink levels and allows for configuring printing, scanning, faxing and other capabilities such as the forwarding of documents to network folders (tested) or to email (not tested yet). In addition, the home page can be used to control fax and scan operations, to convert a graphic image to text and to launch other applications such as the HP Photosmart Essential. I posted images of the Home and Configuration screens.

I did not fully test the Photosmart Essential application yet but I expect it to meet most basic photo management and printing needs and perhaps more.

If staying with the defaults at drivers installation, HP will install other, generally unneeded or unwelcome applications and services. One of them, the HP Customer Participation Program seems to be taking hundreds of megabytes but not doing anything useful from the end-user's point of view. I found Web discussions indicating that the 'program' was guilty of a memory leak. I removed it. Another unwelcome (to me) addition is the 'Yahoo Toolbar' to my Internet Explorer which I don't use anyway. This was done without asking for my permission. I had to use Vista's Control Panel to remove it after the fact.

Finally, one 'glitch' that occured after my initial installation from the supplied HP disk had a pop-up constantly telling me that the "HP product assistant" had to be installed or updated and asking me to provide a path. Providing the path for the requested file which I found burried 3 levels deep inside the supplied CD, was not helping and the cycle kept repeating endlessly. Some Web research revealed that this was a common problem and there were not many known solutions. I was able to find at the HP site a utility that tried to remove all HP drivers software from my PC but, 4 reboots later and after re-installing the drivers, the popup returned. A call to the HP support was answered and a technician was able to address the problem after taking over my computer, performing the 'cleanup' job that I tried myself and then installing an updated version of the drivers, downloaded from the HP site. The file name for Vista 32-bit is OJP8500vA909_Full_12.exe. I will post an image showing how to get to the drivers from the HP Solution Center. The HP suppport remediation completed after about 2 hours. The HP technician stated that 'only Vista' installations experience this problem. XP or Mac users should be safe.

Print
-----
Ink-jet printing outputs clean documents even on the 'normal' resolution. Printouts can be either color or black and white, one-sided or two-sided. Print quality can be set to anything form 'general everyday printing' to presentation, photo-quality or to ink-saving 'fast/economical printing'. The supplied paper tray can be loaded with up to 250 sheets up to 'legal' size. One-sided print speed is adequate but duplex printing can be quite slow.

The print operation appears to involved a great deal of physical movement inside the printer. If placed on anything but a very steady platform, the printer tends to swing quite violently from left to right and back. This had me concerned enough to move it from its initial location.

Copy
----
The copy function allows for anything from one-sided/one-sided to two-sided/two-sided copies. As in the case of printing, two-sided copies are much slower to produce. The copy quality is good enough to make the copy almost indistinguishable from the original.

Fax
---
I did not fully test the FAX capabilities but it's worth menioning that a lot of flexibility is provided, including the ability to direct the faxes to a network folder (which I did test with the scan function) rather than having them printed. It is also possible to block 'junk' faxes by maintaining a list of the offending phone numbers.

Scanner
-------
As a scanner, one can file the output to any of up to 10 preset network folders or if when the scanning process is initiated from a PC, output can be directed to a designated user's local folder. Scanned documents can be translated to text via the integrated OCR function. My experiment with a printed document produced with Microsoft Word returned 100% accuracy for content but, as expected, the formatting (headers, footers, margins) was not properly handled.

Photo processing
----------------
Photo processing can be controlled either at the console and the interactive touch screen interface does allow for some flexibility. Input is provided by inserting one of the supported memory devices containing pictures (MMC SD, CF, XD, MS/DUO or USB). Some crude cropping and sizing is available as well as color processing - sepia or gray scale prints can be produced and the colors can be manipulated to be darker or lighter. The more flexible solution and the one more likely to be used is via the provided HP Photosmart Essential application. Either through the touch screen interface or via HP Photosmart the printer can be configured to use photo paper from either HP or 'other' manufacturers. Inks more suitable for photo printing are available from HP but the quality of prints that I produced with the supplied ink on Canon Photo Paper Pro was satisfactory.

Document Management

I did not test the claimed document management capabilities yet.

Support
-------
I was satisfied with the quality of support provided. After a slow start (20 minutes) where the Help Desk person asked many questions related to my identity, the printer's identity and the nature of the problem, I was forwarded to a technician that was able to actually solve my problem (see above under 'software'). It's hard to tell whether the better than expected support came because I mentioned that I was in the process of reviewing the printer on behalf of a known vendor.

In addition, the HP Web sites provide a lot of material, including updated drivers and the full manual which I still have to print.

I am including a few personal benchmarks with the hope that they might help someone make the right decision when it comes to purchase a home-printer or a small office printer.

- Printing

Was done on 10 pages of a Microsoft document that had some graphics and some color. The print quality was set to 'General everyday printing'.

- Copying

Set to 'color', 'General everyday printing' quality.

If you're looking for a printer with all the latest technologies, check out the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. Keep in mind that HP makes two 6500 models--one is wireless and one is not. This is the wireless model. With copy, scan, print and fax functions this all-in-one is a real workhorse.

Fast speed (up to 31 ppm) and extremely easy to use. The setup function is all done via software--you don't even need to touch the 6500's keypad controls. It links directly to your System Preferences control panel making the wireless and fax settings easy. It uses 4 separate color inks, so you can control your print costs when only a single color needs to be replaced.

Main drawback is HP's decision to only include a 2-line text display. For a printer in this price range, HP should have included a 2.5" color LCD screen. If you're looking for a multifunction machine that does it all, seriously consider the HP 6500

I have had other Brother laser printers, always finding them an excellent buy. The HD-5340D continues this trend with high speed printing, duplexing and excellent black/white graphics capabilities for high volume home or small business use. When these printers are available at special pricing, the 'bang-for-the-buck' is very high. You might be able to find higher quality printing or faster speeds, but for general production work this printer is a work horse and will be very hard to beat. You will not go wrong with the HD-5340D.

If you are looking for a photo printer that is convenient basic and easy to use...you cannot go wrong here! The photos print out quickly and are great quality. The printer comes with some paper & ink however if you want to print more then a few you'll need to buy additional paper & ink...which is somewhat of a pain but is honestly to be expected. It's a great addition to any house with families or those who like to take pictures. The best part is you just stick your memory card in the slot and print. No more uploading and sending them off to pick them up an hour later or have them mailed to your house! You cannot go wrong on this printer for the price!!
